  6. – A Macintosh with a 68020+ CPU
  7. – System 7.0 or later
  8. – A 2400 bps or faster modem, or Internet access through MacTCP
  9. – Consent to the Outland Terms of Service

  11. The first time you run the Gateway program, you will need to configure the Connection Settings under the File menu.  A dialog box appears where you can select a variety of communication parameters.

  14. For modem users:

  16. – Select Outland CCL Modem Tool from the Method popup menu (it may already be selected). In the Phone text entry box, type 325-9904 or 1-415-325-9904.  Under the Modem popup menu, select the type of your modem if it appears in the menu; otherwise use Hayes 1200/2400.

  18. – Certain modems, especially high-speed ones, do not work correctly with the default CCL Modem settings called “Hayes 1200/2400”.  If that is the case, you will need to get the correct settings file for your modem.  The CCL Modem Tool uses the same settings files as does AppleTalk Remote Access.  Settings files for some common modems are available on the major Internet ftp sites, but if you can't find the one for your modem, you may need to contact your modem manufacturer for an AppleTalk Remote Access settings file.  The settings file must be placed in the Extensions folder.  You can try some modem's settings file if you want, but results vary.

  21. For Internet users:

  23. – You can use Internet to connect to Outland.  Select Outland TCP Tool from the Method popup menu. Our host name is dover.outland.com, and the port number is 4000.  Your Mac must have a connection to the Internet that supports MacTCP, which must be already installed and configured.

After you have configured the Connection Settings, select Connect from the File menu or from the button on the title screen.  If you are using a modem, it should now dial.  If all is working correctly, you will be connected to the Outland network.  Upon connection, you will be prompted for your account and billing information.

Once in Outland, you may use the Outland Gateway to change your player password, name, and description.  Your player name is the name people will see in the various Outland games.  You cannot change your account name.  To look at the player information of another person, you will need to enter that person's account name.

  30. From the Gateway, you will see a list of the applications available.  To run an application, double click on its name.
